It was rush hour, and the sea of people in uniforms trying to arrive to work on time was astounding. The allyways were filled with darkness, and only darkness. The sounds of talking, phones ringing, and footsteps filled the area. Soon, all of this noise would disappear once everyone arrived--

    The area around me was actually quiet, considering where I was. What I could hear, however, was the muffled sound of talking. I sit here in the darkness of this alleyway, on top of a trash can. I'm waiting for something. Nothing in particular; just... Something.

    I had no owner; I was a street cat. Some could say that I'm "free", but I don't think they're right. Rather, I'm confined to this city. I can't leave. Where could I go? I'm only knowledgeable of the city I'm trapped in. Such a happy city, with such gloomy allyways. The contrast was actually amusing to me, but then again; a lot of things have been amusing to me, lately.

    With my excellent hearing, I can hear the faint sound of some people talking. It seemed like they had been talking for awhile now, I might have zoned out. I immediately pounce off of the trash can I was sitting on and go to investigate. My ears would twitch every now and then as I keep my eyes wide open. I am an Espurr. An unnerving one, at that... But then again, aren't all Espurr llike that?

    I go deeper into the alleyway that I would call my home, and I did so without fear, and without caution. To my surprise, I find some people sitting around in a circle at the end of the allyway. There were two females and three males. They seemed to be discussing something. I simply stand there, still in the shadows. I waited to be noticed, like a child waiting for their parents at a doorway.

    I stare at them with my large unnerving eyes. "And here we are," the man at the back of the alley began to say. "Failures and disappointments alike, we gather here as a last resort." He said this in a somber tone as his eyes glazed over at the ground. He let out a sigh and went silent. A much skinnier man began to speak up.

    "Yeah," he agreed. "But there must still be a place in society for us, why else would we exist?" This man took the fedora he was wearing off of his head, and placed it on his lap. He was dressed in a dirty tuxedo and there was an àĺçàhòĺ stain on the top left side of it. He seemed to be the most depressed in the group, yet, he looked like he was the most fancy of the group.

    While everyone else in the group was wearing fairly "basic" clothing, he was wearing clothes a rich man would wear. Why would someone so fancy-looking be with those who... Aren't so fancy-looking...? There was silence as they stopped talking. I guess they had finished their conversation. Yet, I still waited in the shadows, waiting to be noticed...
