On a non-American note, I just finished MOTHER 3 today, and I'll be doing a spoiler-free (!) review in the comments for anybody looking into whether they'd like to play the game! Might be a few minutes though :b

  • See what I meant about a few minutes? Anyways... I'll start off with the basic plot and other pertinent info. MOTHER 3 mainly follows the family of Flint and Hinawa, centering for the most part around one of their two twin sons, Lucas. Anything past that pretty much counts as a spoiler, unfortunately! As for obtaining it... Well, I can't help you there, personally. Look it up.

  • Gameplay: Mother 3's gameplay is similar to Earthbound in many ways (the presence of PSI, scrolling health bars...), but it adds in a new mechanic in the form of rhythm-based battles. Personally, I enjoyed the mechanic, as it adds more player involvement than Earthbound ever acheived, though it was frustrating at times (Masked Man Strong One. Enough said.) The large span of playable...

  • characters, from PSI-slinging princesses to dogs and monkeys, is certainly charming, and each one has their own unique talents (sneakiness, attacking, healing, etc.). My only real complaint would be the occasional need for grinding before major boss fights, but it goes rather quickly. Enemy encounters can also be annoying when you accidentally get a red swirl to start battles. Gameplay: 8.5/10

  • Graphics (I don't judge on graphics, but a quick note here): As MOTHER 3 was made for the GBA, its graphics are mostly 32-bit. They are rather decent for what they are, though- a vast improvement over Earthbound, and no real eyesores. Graphics: Good.

  • Music: Oh god, the music. Though it was all crafted for the Game Boy Advance, each piece leaves the right impact at the right moment on the player, switching from comical to outright tear-jerking. Leitmotifs were certainly used here, though- common themes include the theme for Tazmily Village, the Love Theme, and the Pigmask theme. Music: 10/10, would listen again

  • Story (I'll try to be spoiler-free here): The basics of this game is that, for the most part, you play as Lucas, a young boy with PSI powers, and you are on a quest to save your people from the corruption of the evil Pigmasks. Main themes would definitely include the strong ties between family, how love lasts forever, and how technology is one of the major corrupters of mankind. In its elements...

  • It manages to manipulate the player's emotions with power, even spending an entire dialogue-less chapter to completely wreck players. I won't say much about it, but the final battle is absolutely a killer. Even during light-hearted chapters, the sadness of the overall plot seeps through, leaving a strong tone before lifting players up at the end. Story: I cried a lot/10

  • Overall: MOTHER 3 is definitely the best RPG I've played in a long time- in my personal opinion (and lots of other people, it seems?) it trumps both Earthbound and Undertale, one of which is the game's prequel and the other of which is inspired by it. If you played either of those games and enjoyed them, I would highly, highly recommend that you play MOTHER 3, even though it takes a bit of work...

  • To get it running. This game is truly, to quote the game's tagline, "Strange, funny, and heartrending,". My only real complaints fall on issues with pacing of the story (chapter 7 is almost a quarter of the 8-chapter game's action!) and bad handling of the dungeons (there are some incredibly ragey areas, and unfair stretches that I don't want to relive). In closing... Reggie, give us MOTHER 3!

  • Final Score: 9.8/10, a masterpiece in RPGs.

  • I'm doin super awesome! I've recently been Young Scrooge and the Future Ghost in Christmas Carol, a robber in Snow Queen, a Winkie in Oz, and I'm rehearsing as a zookeeper in Madagascar! Bejeezers, why did they even make a play out of that?

  • Wow, you get around. I think I'd collapse if I tried to do that much acting... Especially considering the fact that I haven't done, er, any since last year. As for the Madagascar play... Can't help you there. They make a play out of everything nowadays...
