    america was englands colony the laws that england was making werent fair with the people in america it was just woods in america in 1776 the people wanted freedom from england they wrote a note to england called the declaration of independence declaring independence or freedom from england . england wanted america to be their colony so a war came america won independence

    @Juan: Well they didn't really win their freedom on that day, that's around the time they declared independence, something the British did not agree to. The war that followed was when they actually fought for independence, and that ended with a treaty in September of 1783, which was years after the declaration of independence was adopted.
