    {Cutter's Corner #330} #Notmysquidsister No, I don't know...it's gonna take some time to get used to these new characters. I think I already prefer Marina, but I can't say I really like either of them yet. They have matching beauty marks at least Could we just have Callie and Marie again?

    All the stuff they showed in the Direct was cool, I like the looks of all the new weapons...IDK, I don't have much to say, it was just good. I'm predicting that you'll be able to play as an Octoling after you finish story mode.

    I was out of town today, so I didn't watch the Direct until about an hour ago, and I drew this semi-quickly. I'd go into more detail about the trip...but I'm lazy and my head feels funny, maybe tomorrow...or never. It wasn't anything big. I got to eat some authentic Japanese ramen, it was really good, and One Punch Man was playing on a TV which made me smile.

    Octoling as an after-story unlock? Oooh, that would be a good idea. Last time there was the Octoling gear after singleplayer, so this would kind of bring that idea to its logical conclusion.

    I feel the same way about the new host/pop star characters. Marina seems OK, but I don't really like anything about Pearl. I know we've barely seen anything from her, but still...ugh. Obviously I get that the Squid Sisters have their own role in the single-player mode, but I still can't help but feel disappointed that they couldn't act as the hosts again.

    Though I prefer Callie over Marina, and Marie over Pearl, I think Off the Hook is a way better band due to their dynamic. Not just in personalities like the Squid Sisters, but also in musical styles. Marina is a DJ and a singer with a wonderful voice, while Pearl is a rough-ish rapper, which makes it easy to tell who is singing.

    @Ray: Wups, guess I didn't even explain my reasoning for why I think playable Octolings could be a reward. Well seeing as Marina is an Octoling, it seems like the wars between the two species has calmed down, allowing some of them to be accepted into Inkopolis. I don't know much about Splatoon2's story, but I'm going to guess the Octarians you fight during the story

    are some of the only ones that are still loyal to DJ Octavio. Finishing the story would mean you stop all the resistance, causing Octolings to be even more accepted into Inkling society...or at least that would be cool... ALSO I HAVE SCREENSHOTS!!!

    @BCH and Erl: I feel like the Squid Sisters had way more mass appeal in both their personalities, singing, and designs. They were both pretty similar in most aspects, but that made them both more easily likable. I agree that it's nice that you can tell the difference between Off the Hook's members during songs, but I just don't like the idea of them.

    They're made to replicate current popular singers/music groups which IMO isn't a good idea...especially the rap part. It seems to be trying to appeal more to an audience that I feel is less likely to play Nintendo games, so it feels pointless. It's not just the fact that they're replacing the Squid Sisters, which I already love, but they're doing a bad job at it.

    The in game dialogue between them is ok, but I really feel that I only like Marina's part. Pearl just seems like a jerk, and I really don't care for her design. I feel like Callie and Marie had more chemistry in their relationship, giving their conversations more charm, but somehow Off the Hook feels like they're just together to make music.

    IDK, I'm probably making way too many assumptions for barely seeing them in action.. I do like their more diverse actions while talking though. You can actually play the demo right now and look around, um, whatever the plaza is named now. It feels good to play Splatoon on the Switch.

    Also extra fun fact that I'm not sure if people really know about: Callie and Marie's personalities are based on the roles of “Manzai”, a traditional style of stand-up comedy in Japan. Marie taking on the “tsukkomi” role (the witty one) and Callie is the “boke” (the uh, dumb one).

    I should clarify that a lot of what I don't like about Pearl is stems from my burning hatred of rap. I also don't like her in-your-face rapper attitude, and I think even her design is kind of ugly. I do agree that the fact that Marina is an Octoling hints at the possibility of playable Octolings at some point. It can't be a coincidence, right?
