本来「ばい(貝)」という名の巻貝の貝殻に鉛を詰めて作られたコマの事で、その形を模した鉛のコマは後に誕生した物らしい。ちなみに「ばいごま」と呼ばれていたのがなまって「べいごま」になったらしいよ。
