So why is it that a veil is okay and the Thunder Helm is okay, yet wearing no headpiece at all will out Link as a voe? Between the two of them, collectively, the entirety of his head and face are both visible!

    Because the guards probably know that the Helm was gifted to a Hylian Vai. After all, your identity as a Voe is only known to Riju, Buliara, Barta (who is keeping it secret), the GSC owner, and one old Gerudo woman towards the North Gate (also keeping it secret).
