    Yuri on Ice isn't labelled shonen ai. Neither is No.6. I don't think Sailor Moon nor any other anime actually tackled hardships. Keijo has lesbians but isn't labelled shoujo ai. Wandering Son did. And I do love it. It is about trans characters and taken seriously. New York, New York is a very well done manga which tackled hardships.

    Anime in general doesn't deal with lgbtq issues but plenty of manga do. like Free Soul, Love My Life, Blue Sky Complex, Shimanami Tasogare. But then there are just excting well written manga like Twittering Birds Never Fly, Oniisama e, Complex, J no Subete, Philosophia, Girlfriends.
