Lots of flurry rushes, armor that either raises your defense or your attack power. And, if you have any bows that shoot multiple arrows, that helps too. Use lightning or bomb arrows, and aim for the face.

I'd recommend coming back later, once you have more hearts and better equipment. If you're not well-practiced with Flurry Rushes, that's probably your best course of action. If you're there to collect shock arrows to appease Vah Ruta, don't worry about taking him on directly - you can easily find enough of them by sneaking around and collecting spent ones that litter the area.

@brenda thanks! i got him lower than 1/2 health, but i died :P. @fi im trying to find enough lightning arrows; i didn't know you could skip him. thanks for the info! :D

Most of the arrow will be in the trees. Keep an eye out for the Lynel to make sure he doesn't spot you.
