catching the cards from what I rememember, but I heard the English translation cropped a lot of things out. I think Clamp in general just has its own way of portraying characters, CCS just happened to be one of the first few I'd watched.

Of the two I watched... I watched Madoka Magika, which I thought was interesting only because of the character named Homura and her story. Then there was the Fate Stay Night spinoff I watched cuz it had a weird unpronouncable name. Too many 'undertones'...and the general magical girl combat of throwing balls of light at other balls of light is kind of boring to me.

As an avid fan of Naruto, I have to say that show became a magical girl anime at the end of Shippuden. Nothing but "friendship" and throwing balls of magic at other balls of magic. I love the series, but that was getting obnoxious. It might be why I don't care to watch MG shows nowadays.

I mean, If you say it like that, then DBZ is just the image I get when I think of a "Magical Boys" series without a familiar, except for them it really isn't about the friendship as much as it is about the fighting. I think Shounen tend to handle the combat aspect a bit better, especially since MC usually isn't a "purifier of evil" I still like MG anime though, but I'm picky.

The reason it annoys me is because Naruto has in my opinion the best hand to hand fights. Like if you watch a Rock Lee fight, it really shows. So when they swap that out for "RasenganRasenganRasengan!" it kinda cheapens the experience.

I actually didn't like Madoka Magica, but it wasn't because it was dark, I geuss it's pretty particular of me, but it was how it ended that bothered me (though I understood why it was popular) However I ended up liking the movies. Whoops- I haven't finished Naruto yet. I heard people didn't like how it ended though.

I think I can see where you're coming from, but I think that tends to be the inevitable downfall that comes from the introduction of special attacks. Atleast in Naruto's cause it was one of the most powerful close combat attacks he learned making it really convenient for battle. Same for Sasuke's chidori. But then wouldn't any repetitive attack become redundant?

Madoka Magika kind of felt like a gimmick. The only purpose it served was to show "hay, it's a Magical Girl show but everything is evil and messed up." The ending, bleh. Main character turning into a god to save the world. That's such a cop out for superhero-esque shows.

The problem with Shonen really. The writers escalate things to the point that you can't even grasp what's going on. The final battle *spoilerspoilerspoiler* of Naruto was essentially a bad guy getting replaced by a bigget and badder guy over and over again.

That's kind of how i saw it too, but how majority seems to portray the ending is that it was really meaningful because she waited until the last minute, watching her friends go down one by one and the care that she felt, etc led to her erasing her own self from existence to end the suffering of—to long to explain but you probably get it. But it wasn't the first of its kind to go down the-

being a magical girl is messed up route. What you just said kind of reminds me of Fairy Tail, which I like but it's not as memorable as other Shounen. As for DBZ, it never really had a "big bad" as to why it can kind of continue. Bleach, I never got into, but I heard it got jumbled near the end too. In ZatchBell, there was clear competition, so even if there wasn't a big bad, you knew it would-

atleast end with him fighting another Mamoto if he lived until the end to see it through. In MG series, there is usually the "monster of the day" and then big bad after big bad later. And I'm not sure why the formula hasn't changed much. (Btw sorry if I'm taking up your comments for the discussion you've posted)

(Don't apologize. I use up all my comments at night so I have plenty. And it's not a waste, anyhow) Anime is very repetitive in nature. The mindset is "this did well, so let's do it again." Most of the time. Which is why Shonen/MG shows seem formulaic at times. That's why I tend to enjoy weird shows that break norms in interesting ways.

Unfortunately, anime is getting harder to make and profit off of nowadays. So of course making a risky move is off the table... It's unfortunate because it staggers creativity. They let in one unique and original idea in and suddenly every show is trying to cash in on that if it becomes successful. Which isn't just an anime thing--

If you remember when they were spamming cheap horror documentary-style movies left and right because Paranormal Activity was so popular. It kinda makes me think that everything is trying to cash in on something else when it comes to media.

@Tintin Weird huh, well if you haven't seen it before, there was always one anime I could never really understand called Serial Experiments Lain, that was an interesting show. Mahou Shoujo Site/ Of the end are creepy but interesting. Sadly, so I hear. I bet in a few years there'll be a show that tries to imitate Steven Universe.

Paranormal Activity? I'm not very familiar with horror movies, but I can imagine. "And it makes sense in a silly way. If something works in the workforce, then why not keep it up since it must be productive."
