鉄隕石の平均組成とコンドライトの金属相の平均組成の密接な対応関係より、鉄隕石はコンドライト組成物質の部分的あるいは完全融解により分離した金属相を代表し、それが地球中心部の核に対応すると推定されている。鉄隕石はニッケル含有量により、ヘキサヘドライト(ニッケル4～6%)、オクタヘドライト(ニッケル6～14%)、アタキサイト(14%以上)に細区分される・・・・。何か難しい説明ですが、要は希少な石です！
