Haven't seen any of that nonsense so far. But, from what I remember, the "new spyke" is a lot more fair, so I dunno if there's going to be more stacking. It doesn't feel like they give you too much of an edge anyways, since the overall game feels a bit faster, and it's easier to dodge attacks.

Also off the Hook interrupts far less than Squid Sisters did. They make their announcements when you boot up the game but won't interupt you even if the stages change but you only get a quick message that the stages and modes changed. The only time they interrupt is when Salmon Run is on and probably if they need to announce a new Splatfest.

So if you leave the game running while in sleep mode, you don't have to deal too much with Off the Hook announcements except for Salmon Run and maybe Splatfest announcements. Also specials are far less panic buttons now and you have to actually plan ahead when to use them.

I do dislike the new Splatfest score system. It is now 2 out of three categories you need to win which is popularity, win rate for playing solo, and win rate for playing in teams. The popularity divide between Pearl and Marina waifuism is so dramatic that I fear Marina would take an easy popularity score for all Western Splatfests giving her an edge already when winning Splatfests.

Pearl has an unconventinal female design so of course she would be hated on by waifuists. She is much better received in Japan though because her design appeals to them more.

Popularity is the only thing that needs to be fixed or removed. The battle scores were pretty darn close by themselves. But I suppose they won't know if people joined Marina because of the character or the team unless they directly address a lot of fans. Regardless, the Pearl Sovereignty fights on!

In my opinion, the thing they got wrong on both Pearl and Marina was giving them permanent expressions. Pearl constantly looks like she's going to rip your face off, even when she's supposed to be happy. Marina always looks terrified of Pearl, even though they're actually friends. As other people have said, the 2D art is much better.

Eh. People can relate to each expression. IRL, all of my expressions look angry, and I've been told multiple times now that my expression looks like that of a murderer(plus my Nick name in high school was mean mug). Permanent angry face isn't all that uncommon.

What is confusing is how Marina shows a particularly happy/overjoyed face whenever she talks smack back at Pearl

Because Marina is totally different in the Japanese version. There she actually matches her body language and is very shy which is fitting for a lone Octoling in a society of Inklings. Treehouse changed Marina completely to make Callie and Marie 2.0.

No offence intended, but Is it a joke to actually like Pearl, though? She actually does seem more relatable to me.

Japanese Marina is closer to me in real life. Probably the closest to all the pop stars. I am a very nervous person in real life. Too bad that is lost in translation.

The more I see of their interactions, the more I like Pearl as a character. I just feel that if they were intentionally designing these two to be likable, some minor changes to their models would have gone a long way toward equalizing the fanbase. I also agree that I like Marina's Japanese personality better.

It's sad to think Treehouse believes only sarcastic characters can be related to. Look at Isabella from Animal Crossing who is completely devoted to you and is hardworking. She isn't sarcastic at all and is very popular when she debuted. Or look at Luigi, he was made into a coward and became very lovable as a result rather than just a mere Mario clone he started out as.

A variety of personalities would definitely be better. Unfortunately, I don't have any insight into why they did what they did. I have a few guesses, but that's all they are. It would be nice if they could be a little more transparent with us.

Perhaps she was made to be sarcastic as to retaliate against Pearl? Maybe they presumed Marina would be more popular here, so they didn't want to make her look "weak" when talking to Pearl?

Looking at it from the other side, I think people would still get upset, because their favorite celebrity is taking "abuse" from Pearl and doing nothing about it. But this is why I like Pearl. She actually seems to have a more balanced personality and isn't leaning towards one side.

So I was in a ranked match where the other side got a disconnect and my side won and we got points for ranking up but less than if both sides had full teams. So I guess it goes like this for ranked. If you are in the losing team with a disconnect you won't have your rank meter affected. If you won 3vs4 you might get more points than usual If you won 4vs3 you will get less points than usual
