The first phase you follow the "lanterns". The second phase (where there are two lanterns and a torch) you light the torch and go in the direction of the embers.

i know, and i've been following the embers. the thing that keeps happening, which is the pic, is that the Koroks or something keep on bringing me back to the 2 torches even when i follow the embers

If you keep getting brought back, you're getting "lost". The embers will change direction several times. So it's best to walk a little, stop, watch the wind blew the embers, and walk a little more. The second you see smoke getting ready to surround you, you went too far in the wrong direction- turn a 180 and run before it's too late.
