I have bad news. Yesterday, my Wii U gamepad became unresponsive. The home, power, and tv buttons work, but all the other buttons, analogue sticks, and even touchscreen have stopped doing anything. This will severely limit the use of my Wii U to games I can play with a Wii remote...

  • Or you could use a pro controller or a Gamecube controller + adapter

  • I'm saving up for a Switch at the moment, which should take another 2 months or so, but it'll probably be awhile after that when I can buy a new gamepad. Unless I can find some way to have it repaired.

  • Your Gamepad turns on? The internal battery in mine is completely dead.

  • hell, one comes WITH your Wii U, unless you've managed to break, sell, or lose it by this point.

  • A Wii U pro controller did not come with my Wii U, but I have a Wii pro controller. Yes, it does still turn on. I just doesn't do anything useful.

  • Ok, I've done some testing, and the problem isn't as bad as I first thought. On all the home menus, and miiverse, internet browser, etc, the gamepad is useless. The Wii remmote is behaving better, allowing me to navigate menus and such, but on miiverse it's being just as useless for some reason, meaning the problem is also with the console, not just the gamepad.

  • When playing games, however, the gamepad functions almost normally, except the touchscreen still ain't doing squat. My Wii U seems to be picking and choosing where it wants to work... This is both strange and frustrating.

  • I can still use miiverse on a mobile device or on my 3DS, like I'm doing now, but I'm gonna have to learn to draw my art on here for now, and, I have no way of seeing my friend's messages...

  • Sad news. I hope you manage to draw well with the 3DS!

  • That's frustrating! Our Gamepad is starting to break, too. Without charging while playing, it barely lasts 30 minutes. I hope you will find a way to repare your gamepad.

  • Is there anything stuck on your gamepad screen cover inside it even a glitter can cause this happened to me

    Yeahs0
  • @Abdullah THANK YOU! I think that may have been the problem. If the touchscreen is being touched in one spot, (in this case because of a dirt buildup, none of the buttons activate, because the touchscreen commands take precedence. When I tested if Minecraft would work and the gamepad was co-operating, it's because it doesn't really use the touchscreen functionality much. Problem solved.

  • Yay! So does it work?

    Yeahs0
  • Glad I could help (for some reason I didn't get the notification)

    Yeahs0
  • Yep, it works just fine now.
