Can somebody tell me what the actual plot of the Emoji Movie was?

Character finds themselves with generic opposite gender friend and same gender comic relief character. I haven't seen itor even heard anything about it but I assume that's the plot

Gene is a defective Meh emoji (he expresses other emotions) and that's apparently a threat to their society, so he sets out (with high-five) to become a normal Meh. He meets Jailbreak (Bootleg Wild Style) and they go through other apps (for product placement) so they can reach some Cloud thing. Gene ends up being all "I'm fine just the way I am" and is eventually accepted as-

-a special multi-expression emoji. Also they take down the society's dictator and Jailbreak is revealed to be a princess or something. So basically it's Wreck-it-Ralph and Lego Movie but without the good writing.
