    Yeah, Bank pulls in Pokedex data from every Gen 6 or 7 game that you connect to it to fill out a full National dex. As for it's value, that's up to you. If you have a lot of older games that you want to transfer pokemon from or if you need a lot of storage space, then it is worth it. Otherwise, probably not.

    I use my Pokébank to store at least one of each pokémon! This way, I'll have a complete pokédex BEFORE I reach the first battle. As soon as I obtain the Pokédex/Rotomdex, I save my game, load the pokémon from the bank, save, move them back into the bank, and go back to my game. I've now unlocked stuff that you can only unlock if you had caught specific pokémon!

    I, also, use my bank to store "special" (exclusive) pokémon...such as the "event" ones. I even have one of each of the original Japanese named ghost-type (except Pumpkaboo & Phantump. I don't have those, yet)!
