I don't understand...

What's the point of having/breeding shiny Pokémon?

  • Shiny Pokemon? Puh-lease, I'm more interested in Pikachus wearing hats, now that's important to have! Seriously though, shinies are rare, as well as some people prefer the color swap over the orginal. Like my shiny Mew, it's rare already enough, but as a shiny it's light blue! My favorite color!

  • If I use a shiny mon it's only cause the color looks better. Other than that people like to show off their dedication to Pokemon by having one of the rarest things in the game.

  • They exist so why not? Some people prefer different color schemes. Pikachu's in hats? I got all 6 that are avaliable. 7th hat is for ultra sun/ultra moon. Just a little longer.

There's no statistical advantage to having shiny Pokémon, so they're just collected for the sake of their rarity, or for the challenge of doing so without trading for them. (Though I feel that many players still overestimate the value of shiny Pokémon when trading for them.)

I get it, you're one of those who think Shinies are pointless because they're just a recolor with no actual beneficial attributes other than looking different. But that's why people hunt for them, they look different. I don't hunt Shinies for a Battle Startegy, I hunt them because I want a Black Charizard, a White Litten, a Gold Poochyena with an adorable Blue Nose. To me, they're special.

Reality, that's all that should matter. I'm sure you got a Pokemon in your party, PC, or Bank that you value most that others may think little of. But do you care what people think of your Pokemon, or do you care for what you think? You don't have to have a logical reason for things. People will like what they like. They will value what they see is worth value.

@ Spi Look; I understand the appeal of getting a lucky 1-in-4000 find and treasuring it, or challenging oneself to collect the shiny Pokémon. My opinion is simply that when people go so far as to 'break the game's code' for them, or readily hand over exceptionally trained and incredibly rare Pokémon for very unimpressive returns because 'shiny!', that it gets a bit too excessive for no reward.

  • I get you Spy! I'll never give away my Kurobatto! Or my shiny Jirachi with Moonblast. Never! Those are my two most prized Pokemon that I'll never trade away or replace. And Crobat is only special cause it's the first thing I bred with an Egg Move(Brave Bird)
