  • how a console had their own music, or ambience. The Switch could have some sort of theme store just like the 3DS. And yes, it could do in the way as those OS's graphics. The Wii U did well with its' transparent game tiles and tiles; glossy glass with transparency that is. And I agree with the Data Management. It would be nice to have options to do backup to maybe a hard drive from the dock's USB!-

  • Not only as backup but as an alternate storage when at home! It is a console that you can take on-the-go after all! Would be nice to have more options in that option as well. Again, please forgive me for my absent-mindfulness.

(Don't worry, I wasn't bothered by the delayed response.) You know, some people managed to force the CPU into New 3DS speeds in old 3DS games. It might not have worked for capped frame-rates, but it worked wonders for Rayman 3D. I can understand capping for when 3D is on, but using the same cap for 2D mode is a little unfair for 2DS users (who can't even use 3D), don't you think?

Adding a little glossiness to the multitasking applet icons (News, Album, etc.) would spice up the HOME Menu a little. A quick glance at Windows 7's taskbar should tell you enough. But considering that the cute "loading" sound (another tradition that's been around since the DS, heard when downloading software) was removed since 3.0.0, it's as if Nintendo WANTS the UI to feel dead and lifeless.

You'd think scaling back the graphics would lighten up the OS a little, but it's somehow heavier than the Wii U by a gigabyte-and-a-half…I think. It's as if the Nintendo Switch was rushed out of the door; that it needs a day-one update at all. Plus, the dock could've had its own storage embedded. (Well, technically it does, but nowhere near big enough to store any games.)

  • Oh, yes, I have heard of it! It really would be great if you could adjust the speeds for each game and, maybe, uncap . I don't suppose games like Rayman 3D are capped at 30FPS? It is sad that Nintendo is taking away such things, I would imagine they are going to revamp which seems very unlikely.

  • And that is what I think may have happen. With all the bending that is happening to many Switch's, and the screen scratching when taking out of the dock, and how both joy-con can be inserted on the opposite from which it was intended to be inserted just so it could get stuck, it does seem rushed.

  • I would have thought such things would be fixed before release or, at least, fixed soon after launch. The Wii U did seemed rushed at the beginning but not on the level of problems plaguing the Switch. The Wii U's OS was slow in starting softwares and closing them and needed the 5GB patch that was distributed almost half a year after launch- But hardware problems like the Switch, never heard of it.

  • *Oops meant to continue "after launch-" -to work seemingly. But hardware problems like the Switch, never heard of it. But all I can say in the matter of the Switch's OS is: there's room for major improvements.

Rayman 3D actually had an uncapped frame-rate (so did Luigi's Mansion 2). You can tell when it runs at 30 FPS in a field, but then suddenly jumps to 60 FPS in a corridor or something. Personally, I think pretty much every game should run at "whatever the GPU can manage" much like PC games, not capped at a laughable frame-rate due to outright laziness (BOXBOY! and Chronus Arc come to mind).

Perhaps they rushed the Nintendo Switch BECAUSE the Wii U wasn't doing so well? Pretty much every Nintendo console feels rushed. Could it have been the shareholders pressurising Iwata to launch a new platform every six years? Like, the DS had to restart to do pretty much anything (exiting PictoChat, even), the Wii could hardly update games, the 3DS shipped with a bare-bones OS and a slow GPU…

…The Wii U had a slow and super-convoluted OS with all sorts of confusing design decisions (why did Parental Controls get an application all to itself, rather than in System Settings? Why was the Wii Menu Electronic Manual an entire channel rather than an Operations Guide?)… …And the Nintendo Switch, well, that's another story. They could've all been fixed with a few more months in development.

  • I have yet to start on Luigi Mansion, so it is interesting that they did that. I would've imagine the game running only at 30 FPS throughout the whole play through. I wouldn't mind if the game does not have any stutter but it would be nice to have higher frame rate also. The devs could try to work to have best of both worlds.

  • Not a surprise that Nintendo would rush the Switch since the Wii U was unsuccessful, they have to make profit after all.(Or appease the shareholders.) But it is confusing on how they would choose such things. I never owned a DS before but I do own a 3DS and that is something I did not know about Pictochat, I suppose there were some rushing in making such a software for the DS?

  • And the Wii could have such a update feature but that would mean Nintendo would need to have changed their storage of flash memory to something more feasible, or use the SD card slot to store updates. For the 3DS GPU, even though it is slow it is finally not being bottleneck by the CPU on the original 3DS hardware. And having such features or manuals separate is strange, you would think such-

  • things will be all in the same place where you expect them to be like in the System Settings. Maybe this is why Nintendo seems backwards in designing not only in the software side but in the hardware side, as well.

  • Nintendo does not need to release a whole new system every 5-6 years just to make profit, they could do what they have been doing with their mobile hardware and make revisions on their console lineup. This is something I'am expecting to happen to the Switch. Maybe use a more powerful Nvidia Shield board with more flash memory in the future?

  • I agree the Switch should have music. Not just for the menu, but for the eShop and Mii creator as well. Honestly, the amazing menu music is one thing I think made Nintendo special, and I got sad when they took that away. I don't mind the minimalistic look of the menus though, I've seen worse examples of minimalism.

  • Also, I think the screen scratching with the Switch only happens if you aren't careful when taking it out of the dock. I always take it out straight up rather than an angle, and I don't have scratches.

  • Also, relating to the original post, will you still be able to upload highlight reels to YouTube in Mario Kart 8? The 30 seconds limit when recording on the Switch isn't enough tbh.
