Question

downside to Mega Evolution?

One thing i've thought about is with some Pokemon that don't have an evolutionary line but still have an a Mega Evolution (like Absol) it pretty much ends them getting a true evolution in the future. Should Pokemon like Absol have just got a true evolution instead, or were them Mega Evolving still a good call?

    You could give them pre-evolutions. Like Pichu, it wasn't added until gen 2 I think, but Pikachu's been 'round since day one, literally.

    Yeah, it makes no sense how either Mawile or Absol could have Megas when they're the only existing stage in their species. I thought Mega Evolution was for fully evolved, 3rd stage Pokemon like Charizard, Aggron, or Ampharos. Even two-stage Pokemon like Manectric, Houndoom, or Abomasnow don't really make sense either, let alone single stage ones, and Legendaries like Mewtwo or Rayquaza.

    It's bad since it's not used as a balancing tool, and the old effective balancing tool (Evolution) can't be applied to them anymore. It looks to me that they're trying to ignore Mega Evolution since there's no new ones, they've banned them twice now in VGC, and the guy himself said Z-moves add more variety anyway. So now Mawile and Beedrill are stuck that way forever.

    Though in Beedrill's case, he should just be given buffed Stats similar to its Mega, since it's already a three stage Pokémon and another Evolution seems out of the ordinary. It mainly applies to Mawile, Banette, Audino and the like.

    I always thought that overall it made more sense to have only fully evolved Pokemon be able to Mega Evolve. From a competitive standpoint having Pokemon that doesn't have a evolutionary line still have a Mega Evolution makes much more sense if using Mega Evolution's gonna be part of competitive battles. But take out that one element to Pokemon games & it's kinda odd

    I should also note that this is purely meant to be from the standpoint of them being unlikely to have a true evolved form in future games. starting with Gen 8. But not on anything that's going on with them right now
