character models

Why are the character models so bad in this game? Very edgy and weird looking.

  • That's just the style of the game. They were trying to make it more realistic and similar to Ocarina of Time, after The Wind Waker's cel-shaded, cartoonish artstyle drove players away...when the games first came out, that is.

  • keep in mind that this WAS originally released in 2006, on the GameCube & Wii. :)

  • But the Wind Waker has good looking charecter models, hardly edgy at all. It was also for the gamecube. :/ IDK i mean this art style is growing on me. It always takes awhile for me at least

  • @Aaron: I'd have to disagree about WW's character models. Seeing Link with that giant football shaped head, noodle arms, and an elongated body with those itty-bitty legs was off-putting. Only a handful of npcs look even remotely 'normal', but the animation was gorgeous. I prefer BotW's character models, which use anime visuals, yet they're more realistically proportioned.

  • @Sui-Feng, I don't see any problem with the NPCs in The Wind Waker, and Link having the "small-body, big head" disproportional look to him is based on a style of Japanese caricature known as "super-deformed." You may not like it, but that doesn't mean it's bad.

  • It always seems to take me awhile to warm up to the art style of any Zelda game. I didn't like the Wind Waker art at first either but now I love it. And im really warming up to Twilight's artstyle as well.

  • @Ursa: I'm not saying it's inherently bad, just that WW's was more extreme than I'm used to seeing in anime. Ranma½ and Tales of Vesperia both have super deformed characters, yet their bodies are still reasonably proportioned. Whereas many npcs on Windfall Island have elongated top heavy bodies with long arms, yet itty-bitty legs. It's off-putting (imo).

  • I am closing this disscussion so that i can post a different one. Thanks to everyone that participated.
