  • What kind of game is this?

  • @David: It's a turn based RPG, but with lots of traditional Monster Hunter style mixed in! Instead of hunting the monsters, you get to raise and fight with them. You ride them as well, and depending on the species can also swim, burrow, fly around etc. Battles have quite a lot of strategy in them, as there's a semi rock paper scissors format but also elements and skills which are important.

  • In battles, you and your 'Monstie' fight separately, but you can give them orders for skill attacks/buffs. As you fight, you build up a gauge of kinship, which when filled lets you ride on during the fight. Then you're able to unleash crazy powerful special attacks! Like in main MH, you can use materials gathered to craft weapons, armour and items, and there are tons of optional subquests too.

  • It's just super fun, and also a great alternative take on the MH formula. I think it's one of the best monster raising RPGs I've ever played.

  • Fascinating! So it's kind of like MH meets Pokemon.

  • @David: Yup! Though personally I've been enjoying this far more than any recent Pokemon game XD. I love that practically every monster is viable thanks to gene customisation. If you've ever heard of/played a game called Jade Cocoon on PS1, it's similar to that.

  • I haven't heard of that unfortunately. Never owned a Playstation. planning on getting one next year though. Tbh, I haven't enjoyed the more recent Pokemon games either. They're ok but the GBC games were much better.
