    The Time Capsule functions like a normal trade machine; it's just called the Time Capsule to losely give a reason as to why you can trade with the Gen 1 games. After you meet Bill in Ecruteak City, you'll be able to use the Time Capsule to trade with Red, Blue and Yellow versions, though your party in Gold/Silver can only consist of Gen 1 Pokemon that only know moves that existed back in Gen 1.
