I am pretty sure that this is was a scrapped boss idea. The Evil Sage's moveset is that of the Right Hand boss, and the music that plays also plays during the fights with the Left Hand and the Right Hand. Nintendo could have originally planned for the Darker Lord (the model for the Evil Sage) to be the 1st phase of the final boss, but then wanted you to use all 10 miis and used 2 hands instead.

Griffins are, in my opinion, one of the cutest monsters in Miitopia. They are also imposing, but their little dot eyes and idle animations are simply adorable!
