Ice Climbers WILL return in SSB5

I honestly don't get why people think they'll stay cut. They were suppose to be in SSB4 and were even completed, but had to be cut due to the 3DS not being all that powerful.

  • @Elucia That doesn't mean Nintendo shouldn't put characters in referencing the system. @Glurp What don't you understand?

  • Nah I think it's better to use chars that survived this era like Mario. One old school character would be enough for me. It's just me, have your opinion and a nice day ^_^

  • Just a reminder to everyone that there isn't some specific limit of character slots. It's time and resources that are the issue. It's not like a clone replaced your favorite character.

  • They'd have to comeback, knowing how much everyone misses them. I want them to have a new Final Smash, too. I don't that Iceberg was useful in Brawl...

  • M.Freeman: There may be no more character slot limit, but there still is the matter of if Sakurai/Nintendo feels a character would be redundant due to another character having a similar shtick (Ex: Duck Hunt & Ice Climbers both being duo fighters who represent the NES) they'll probably opt to keep one & cut the other to save time & effort for the characters they deem to have greater priority.

  • @Elucia Smash is supposed to be a celebration of Nintendo's history, that includes classics from the NES era. Not just the newer or more popular characters.

  • I honestly feel like Veteran DLC characters is just a bad excuse for the developers to get more money. Either put them in the base game, or not at all.

  • @Glurp Ice Climbers and Duck Hunt play nothing alike. I like to focus more on the playstyle than anything else of characters. @Naruto It's an easy way to bring back fan favorite characters. I do think they should be only $3 and come with a stage (New or old) though.

  • Regardless, I don't see a problem with keeping both Duck Hunt and Ice Climbers. Brawl had two NES reps too: Pit and Ice Climbers, and if you count R.O.B. then that's three.

  • Still, I think Nintendo would end up keeping 1 NES representive duo since that's the role they originally intended for Ice Climbers & was substituted by Duck Hunt, even if both play differently. Also, Pit had a game on the Game Boy & R.O.B not only was an NES accesory rather than a game character, but appeared in a few later games too, so neither of them are solely "NES characters." Cont...

  • ...Lastly, though I love Duck Hunt, I acknowledge I'm in the minority. The dog is infamous in gaming since the NES & a lot of Smash players dislike Duck Hunt for their supposedly "cheap" & "annoying" playstyle & the absurd notion that they stole the Ice Climbers' spot. Sadly, if the Ice Climbers are in SSB5, Nintendo/Sakurai will probably scrap the duo due to redundancy & lack of popularity.

  • I honestly think DLC in general is a lazy way for the developer too get extra money. If the game doesn't have everything yet, it shouldn't be released. I shouldn't have too put $100 worth into a game I've already bought, wether it's optional or not. I shouldn't need more money to get the full experience.

  • Agreed, I need 60$ to get the DLC that I want of Sm4sh. That's more money than the actual game itself.

  • I'm fine with DLC as long as it starts development after the game releases or close to the game development's end, and offers a season pass where you can get all the DLC for much cheaper.

  • I still don't see why we can't have two NES duos especially if they play differently. I wouldn't be surprised if Duck Hunt gets cut, but it would be due to lack of popularity, not because the Ice Climbers are replacing them. And sure, Pit had a game on the Game Boy but he was mostly known for his NES game. In Uprising, they never even mention the Game Boy game.
