    ok, so you should try facing against someone online or go into practice mode and face against some characters that are good at certain things. like, recovery: Ness offence: FE( fire emblem) characters a wall: Charizard combos: Bayonetta defence: Kirby speed: Sonic, Fox, Falco recommend DLCs: Lucas, Bayonetta, Cloud and Corrin.

    With perfect reaction time, Kirby’s Hammer Flip can counter Koopa Clown Kart, so be well aware of that when facing a Kirby player.

    All in all, the only thing I can say is that in order to win, keep fighting. If you lose one fight (please don’t do it on purpose), you can learn your opponents’ moves easily and it could give you an advantage in the next round.

    I was accustomed to a GameCube controller before I played the 3DS version. I changed the controls based on muscle memory: Jump with the right-most button, Attack with a button in the middle, and Special Moves with the button bellow and to the left of attack. So I jump with "A," attack with "X," and do special moves with "Y." It works for me.

    Use every character so you can learn their moveset and how to counter it. You can also learn new mains this way. Also Bowser Jr is a bad character (no offense) meaning it is a lot harder to get really good with him. If you find yourself at a stump watch some competitive for inspiration, that is how I learned Pikachu. Thanks ESAM.
