Mario's story potential

I know Mario's all about the gameplay, but at this point I'm sick of constantly saving Peach. I want something more. I sincerely believe Mario has the potential to have a world that seems silly and cartoony on the outside yet believable and compelling on the inside. You know how shows like Adventure Time and Gravity Falls have engaging writing for everyone?

    The fact is I'm starting to think I should just leave Peach to Bowser because the series has rarely given me a reason to care about Peach as a character. In fact, I don't think I could get emotionally attached to almost anyone because there's no reason to care other than 'Bowser's does bad thing, go stop him.' The RPG's can have engaging stories and even then Nintendo's trying to ruin that.

    I don't mind the constant saving Peach stop Bowser's plan thing. It works and the games are great. Just me though.

    I know Mario's known for gameplay, but there are so many other games that blend gameplay and story well. Look at the PlayStation platformers. Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, and Sly Cooper have great gameplay, but they also have fun and memorable characters and stories to boot. Just give a Mario story a little bit of depth, that's all I'm asking.

    That's why I like Rosalina so much. They actually went out of their way to make a character who has a backstory and can be fleshed out. Please, just give me a reason to care about who I play as and surround myself with. That's all I ask.

    What if they took Daisy and made her into a more interesting character? I hate Waluigi with a passion and yet I'm willing to give him a chance if they can give him some actual character.

    My problem with Daisy isn't how interesting of a character she is, it's her awful, migraine-inducing voice. Change that and I might be more open to her in the future. I don't see that happening anytime soon.

    May I mention that Waluigi actually has more personality and character than Mario himself. At least Waluigi laughs, feels sad, angry, and has fun doing what he does. All Mario does is scream for Peach when she gets kidnapped. And am I seriously the only one who has heard of Psycho Waluigi? A WALUIGI GAME.

    And Smash Bros Brawl gives Waluigi a very small backstory in his trophy description. "A twig thin man who sees himself as Luigi's ultimate rival. He spent a long time working in the shadow of the Mario Bros. before finally becoming strong enough to compete with them in Mario Tennis." It's not like Yoshi's backstory but it's something. Small details go a long way sometimes.

    I'd rather see Waluigi share a game with Wario. It could be a treasure hunting platformer. The two made for some hilarious interactions in the past, I think giving them both the starring role could work.

    Whilst Sonic isn't doing that good as he did back then at least the people at SEGA try to give us stories. I mean look at all of the theories with Sonic Forces about Infinite. The only thing we got close to an actual story was Rosalina. I wish Mario games had a similar story writing to the RPGS. The Peach being kidnapped thing is getting old. Zelda had Princess Zelda bein kidnapped sure but we-

    I totally agree Andrew, while the RPGs have actual plots (Which are being ruined) Mario should have an actual plot. Since I was 7, for 7 years I've been a Mario fan, and I know what you mean, the same plot over and over and over, that's why I didn't buy NSMBU. IMO, as you said, having Wario and Waluigi together in a game sounds good. I myself don't hate Daisy, I'm good with her appearance (Cont)

    I agree. Even though sonic's plot are completely controversial I like how the characters in sonic are made very interesting and great gameplay for the most part.

    I'd love to see Wario and Waluigi star in a Mario & Luigi-style adventure that's set in the Wario Land universe. It's a pipe dream that's never going to happen, but it's fun to imagine what it could be like.

    i would LOVE to have a mario game with really unexpected twists instead of this- jump about, bash your head on blocks, kick bowser's a*s, find peach, smooch her and dash off THE END.
