Hello, fellow Zelda fans! Can you please tell me something about BotW? Someone told me that in order to find some shrines, I'll have to do some sidequests or answer some riddles. Can I just find them by exploring or it isn't possible? Please no spoilers.

  • Shrines act as the puzzle parts of a traditional Zelda level without the dungeon. Some Shrine are easy to spot, others are underground and need to solve a riddle by Kass or a side quest.

  • Some shrines have Shrine Quests associated. Sometimes speaking to a character will kick off a Shrine Quest, for example Poki in Gerudo Desert who wants a noble pursuit from Gerudo Town, and then a Shrine Quest will pop up in your adventure log. You have to complete the quest to reveal the shrine.

  • Most of the shrines can be found, some are hidden while others are spotted from a distance. There are a total of 46 shrine quests and a total of 120 shrines.

  • If you hear an accordion, then that means Kass will give you a shrinequest, usually to do with your surroundings. Doing as he asks will reveal the shrine. Others unlock after certain story progression, while the rest you will find naturally on your travels. Make the habit to speak to key npc every so often. Also interacting with things in the wild will also reveal a shrine or shrinequest.

  • Thanks for letting me know, everyone! Much appreciated! I'm always talking to NPCs in the games I play, so that's not a problem. I have one more question, though. When a shrine sidequest is unlocked, will the game show me where to go with a dot in the map or do I have to find it by myself? Is that the case with certain/specific shrine quests?

  • Nop. The shrine quests only mark the point where you initiate the quest, so you have to find the shrines by yourself. That's great, imo, because let you explore a lot. And sometimes, you get distracted by something else during the searching. It's incredible.
