I have heard this in the past: that, 'ambition bites the nails of success'. I would like to know if, A. You understand what this means, and, B. Agree with the sentiment. Thank you for your time.

  • I am not great with extrapolation when it comes to metaphors, but I'll give it a shot. Biting nails is a habit typically done out of nervousness, typically I would believe nervousness tends to come from something important to a person being at risk. Typically, Ambition will drive someone to step outside a confort zone, which is frightening, but that act itself tends to enable personal growth...

  • So the question being placed... Is it better to succeed at something mediocre, or to possibly fail at being extraordinary? I for one agree with the sentiment. Success isn't generally achieved because someone has never failed, in fact, successful people typically fail much more than normal people. Success is typically achieved from having the drive to pick one's self up and try again.

  • Ambition and realistic optimism is needed for success, to approach a goal with a half hearted drive will ensure failure by giving up when obstacles get in the way. approach it with pessimism, and you'll likely defeat yourself in your pursuit. If you don't see the point in doing it, or you believe it will fail, you'll subconsciously hold back the true effort to succeed.

  • Interesting, Qrow. That's kind of like how... 8 / 10 makes for 80% as does 8,000 / 10,000. You will achieve an 80% failure rate before you gain the foot-hold that you need to achieve an 80% success rate.
