Hyrule Encyclopedia plot holes

I've recently come across some hearsay about Hyrule Encyclopedia, and how it calls Termina "an illusory world created by Skull Kid using the power of Majora's Mask." If that's true about Termina, shouldn't this drawing on the tree trunk not exist, considering when it's made?

  • I feel like I should mention Occam’s Razor should be valid in this instance...one can make up as many assumptions as needed to explain whatever, but in the end, which one requires fewer assumptions? Or in this case, just one? (Encyclopedia is not canon)

@Nintendoer: I'm aware. But again, this this post was made to respond to those who think that it is.

@Ursa: "False history" or not, to anyone who has played Majora's Mask before, it's another of the things that the book is saying that don't add up. I mean, take a look at Link's Awakening. That's set in an explicitly illusory world, and is properly built up to be such. The Koholint Islanders know who the Wind Fish is, and even revere it. No such reverence is given to the Skull Kid at all in MM.

  • Sorry, I worded that funny. I meant that the only assumption for that side of the argument is that the Encyclopedia is not canon, versus the multitude of assumptions if you think it is.

Going back to the opening screenshot establishing Tatl and Tael to be Terminans, this screenshot clearly shows Tatl and Tael outside of Termina. And considering what Hyrule Encyclopedia says about Termina...

This post is more or less about what kind of item Majora's Mask is. So far, no mention about it being able to create anything.

Evil power, huh? And given that the previous screenshot mentioned hexing rituals, I'm not seeing how this mask could be used to CREATE something.

The use of the phrase "great troubles" here makes me want to believe that the eponymous mask could be used to create a whole world even less. Especially considering what brief scene follows.

  • Not to be contradictory, but how would you explain the moon, then? Surely that’s not Termina’s real moon, if it even has one... Although it’s true that its primary purpose is as a tool of destruction. And that creating a moon is an entirely different beast from creating an entire world.

If it's a false moon, then it would most likely serve a similar purpose to the Star of Oblivion, minus a potential failsafe. But I dunno. At the very least, there's no mention of it being a false moon. On the other hand, it would explain why there's a whole grassy plain with one tree inside it. As well as 5 additional segments inside.

The mere fact that it was sealed away by those who regularly used it definitely says only bad things about the object in question. Especially considering that it's displayed powers capable of inflicting destruction, sorrow, and despair.

And here's the beginning of probably the biggest inconsistency in regards to what Hyrule Encyclopedia says about Skull Kid. Simply put, it's strange for a creator to destroy a creation for seemingly no reason. But here, there is a reason behind the Skull Kid's actions here. What is that reason?

Majora's Mask itself proved to be too much for Skull Kid. Which I doubt would be the case if Skull Kid really did create Termina.

And in said reveal, the mask itself calls the Skull Kid a puppet. Which, given what Hyrule Encyclopedia says, would be strange indeed, as the book itself pretty much stated the other way around in saying that Skull Kid used Majora's Mask to create Termina.

And this part makes me wonder if that area in the game, the area you explore after Link drops from that cliff but before entering Clock Town, is a part of Termina. If it's not, then surprise surprise. This would be another example of a Terminan outside of Termina.
