  • Turn nervousness into excitement.

  • Hi! This is Caleb! I ran out of posts, but am now using my sister's account. I know you would have missed me, so I saved you the heartache!

  • Yup? Ask me anything... just know my heart belongs to Dark Coco. He is so handsome!

  • He???

  • Just ignore that, Coco. We all know that's Caleb trying to bother you.

  • Try to speak as slowly. Whenever I present a speech, I have a tendency to rush through my points. Also, clearly pronouncing your words and purposely emphasising key points are very beneficial to the audience.

  • It's actually pretty easy. In front of a class in public school, no problem. It's important to speak not too fast and actually look at the audience, not the paper your reading from. I HATE it when people just read their paper in front of the class. Do NOT speak in a monotone! That's so very important! And try to appear relaxed. Don't tense up or your speech won't be as effective.

  • It's easy. Know your material well and ground yourself. No nervous movements, your energy will go all over the place. You want to focus it at the people you're talking to. Pick a few people around the room and look at each person as you speak.

  • Oh and don't forget to breathe.

  • Heh, public speaking is not easy for me. If it's a scripted speech, I'm fine. However, if I need to present a memorized speech or a debate speech, I typically become feverish. Then there are impromptu speeches, which I'm particularly fond of.

  • Best advice I can give istry your best lol, I dreaded public speaking in school XD (sorry)

  • Haha, I had to do that assignment. The best advice for public speaking is not going to work so well in a Communications class. The very fact that it is an assignment, the very nature of the task, makes it daunting enough to cause unnecessary tension and nervousness that you might not normally have. It's supposed to be practice but it's basically hard-mode speech delivery.

  • ...and perhaps that's exactly how to handle it. Practice speaking in front of groups of people that you may not know very well before the assignment (*cough* test) date. It doesn't even have to be the same speech but if you can't get over the stress of public speaking to a non-grading crowd, even if it is very awkward because you forced it, then you won't be able to get over the stress when...

  • ...you stand in front of the class. This doesn't mean that you'll be able to overcome the nervousness in class if you can do this, it simply means that you won't be able to if you can't. It's like testing for a single, though major, obstacle that you may face. Even if the obstacle is gone, there still may be another one. Namely that a teacher with their own biases, will be grading it.

  • Ultimately, at my school - in my class, I found that participation, quality, even the speech itself, seemed to matter little. We were graded by our peers who were more scornful of tardiness than people who didn't even show up or participate. Going to be late? GOING TO BE LATE?! HA! Better not even show up! What a joke!

  • It may not have helped that I was initially very lost, insecure, and lacking in confidence with my part in the group project. People remember that. Even though I overcame that and pulled something much better than what certain ones of my group-mates did, who barely even did their part, I was still judged harshly. Understand that people are shallow.

  • If you come in looking dirty, unkempt, or simply seem timid on ONE day. Thats most of what will stick with people. If you think that you can't do something and make that known, then people will continue to think that of you even after you prove that you very much can do it, and do it quite well. I'm not saying that you shouldn't ask for help in life but you have to be very careful of how you do.

  • The saying "Fake it 'til you make it." is kind of a bad saying but the fact of the matter is, people will ALWAYS choose the person who is completely confident and does everything wrong over the person who acts timid and scared. I dont know if you've seen any of those meme pictures that say "NAILED IT!" and in the picture, the person clearly did not nail it but they are still beaming and confident
