Netplay after Miiverse?

So, I already know For Glory is independent from Miiverse, but Online mode With Friends relies on, well... having friends. Will it even be possible to link up two specific Wii-Us for Netplay after Miiverse? If this has been officially stated, I probably missed out or forgot so if anyone knows, please tell me.

    Well you can friend people by typing in there NNID into the friend list. So yes you can still make friends and play online after Miiverse ends.

    One alternative I can think of might be using this weird Tourney mode (if it survives), since unlike For Glory it allows changes to ruleset, stagelist and other options normally only available in With Friends and Local Smash.

    Oh, that would be great. But isn't the entire friends system rooted in Miiverse? Otherwise, I guess I will be keeping the friends I currently have too? Many thanks by the way.
