    Blue hearts mean you take double the normal damage you usually take- it's for an extra challenge. I'm not sure whether they're specific to the amiibo or not. You might be able to have them by playing hero mode, but I've never played the HD version.

    Also, if you combine the amiibo and Hero Mode, you'll take quadruple the amount of normal damage! I hope I'll be able to try out the HD version someday, it'll make a 3-heart run an actual challenge.
