Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U

Just a security PSA about something going on irl with wireless devices (possibly including the Wii-U/Switch/3DS). There's a flaw in almost all wireless devices currently that can allow traffic to be decrypted via something called Key Reinstallation AttaCKs, or KRACK for short. Keep an eye out for patches for all your wireless devices including cellphones, computers, & game consoles.

  • This flaw only affects client devices, so you don't need to do anything with your router(s) at home, & it isn't related to bluetooth devices (like controllers/speakers/etc) only 802.11x wireless devices (aka WiFi connections). All wireless networking devices are assumed to be vulnerable until their associated manufacturers/companies come out and say otherwise, or release patches for the issue.

  • This could mean certain older devices may never be patched/checked, leading to those devices being a possible risk. Idk if Nintendo devices have this vulnerability, but the issue itself arises from a flaw with the core WPA2 encryption, not just a firmware/driver bug. Just be wary that you may be at risk using wireless connections. Wired connections are unaffected by this problem.

  • AFAIK, there aren't any attacks utilizing this flaw in the wild yet, but still be cautious til you know that your devices aren't affected or are patched. TL;DR: WiFi flaw affecting all devices, patch stuff, use caution while using WiFi til confirmed fixed.
