    I still remember when nintendo promised people would get Gamecube games on wiiu vc. And then it was never mentioned again.

    In one of their nintendo directs they said that both Gamecube and Gameboy Advance games were coming out on wiiu vc. In the end GBA games did get released but Gamecube games didn't release.

    You're going have to name which Direct because I can't be bothered watch old Directs atm. Even if they did say they'd bring GC games to Wii U, it's understandable why they didn't because the Wii U was DoA. Switch is actually doing good, which would make GC VC have a better chance.

    I think it was the trailer where we first saw the Wii U? I remember hearing that it wouldn't support GC discs but the titles would be available for download

    I never heard them outright say there would be GC games on the VC. As far as I know, that was fan speculation.

    I do remember at some point Nintendo said they would consider using the GC adapter for future titles beyond SSB4, but of course nothing came of that. Just as you think, GC VC was nothing but fan speculation.

    The fact that the GC adapter was only compatible with SSB Wii U was the reason why I never bothered with it.

    I'll have to find it but it was definitely confirmed by nintendo that gamecube games were coming to wii vc. It was announced alongside with GBA games being announced for wiiu vc. It was the only time they had mentioned GC games coming though.
