    Because in breath of the wild in the castle zelda's diary it says he doesn't talk because he doesn't want to affend anyone.

    TECNICLY... he CAN talk, BUT... all he says are, "AHHHHHH" and, "oghf..." I think when link was born he was cursed by ganondorf to were he can't talk or he dies.

    Also link can talk in ocarina of time after you go in the great duku tree, you go to zelda when you are a kid she ask you questons link does answer but there is no diologe for it.
