Also posting this for anyone who's just starting out: always travel with a full party and be sure one of them is a healer. I can't stress that enough. Having a reliable healer in your group makes even the toughest battles manageable. And Irina is one of the best you can get, because not only does she learn the game's best healing art, she gets it EARLY (continued below).

Smooth Recovery heals the entire party and buffs their evasion at the same time; making them harder for the enemy to hit. Even better, you get to learn it from Irina by completing her "Renewed Will" affinity mission (which is required for story progression). So recruit her early and level her up 'til she learns Smooth Recovery. She gets it at around lv.16-17.
