More information on the prototype console.. It will have 2 USB 3.0 ports on the front, 2 USB 3.0 ports on the back, 1 USB Type-C port, 1 HDMI outlet, 1 display port, 1 ethernet port and space in the chassis to add a disc drive (which they will be adding as standard. They are currently using external drives to read media). The controller will have 6 buttons.. A, B, C, X, Y, Z.

Their OS is currently an open source OS but if Sega backs it then it more than likely will turn into a closed, proprietary OS. By the way this sounds, these guys are doing all the hard work & Sega would just want to get back into the console market, back this project, fund it to mass produce it & run with it like they did with Sonic Mania. I know I'll be keeping an eye on their progress!

Some info on the controller.. It has a turbo button, rumble motors, 50 hour battery life, 7 -10 meter range, there will be white & black versions & more features being added such as clip on grips & skins & more colors available. The console will be able to run the Unity & Unreal Engine 4 game engines!

I bet some said that for Sonic Mania as well. Anyways, it seems interesting and like I said, I for one will be keeping an eye on it!

A bit of advice for Sega...A little less focus on Sonic, more on other games...you had Shining Force,Streets of Rage, and Shinobi but kind of just let them all be ignored for a long time, stop it!

@George, launching, marketing and supporting a console costs way more than making a game. Sega isn't going to pour money into that again.

@Lex - Tell that to Atari! :-) Sega is reimagining themselves & there is only so far you can go with being a 3rd party developer. I have a feeling they will eventually try something again.

Pipe dream from Atari. They haven't had a successful console since they crashed the videogame market in 1983.

Nostalgia is pretty big these days.. people just might get these systems to help relive their childhood especially if they keep their IPs exclusive to the system from launch onwards.

Very few people will buy an atari. They'll play ET and go oh yea I remember why you never buy an Atari again.

I would love to get a Atari HD console, but thinking of getting a Sega Genesis Flashback HD, if there back on sale.

I don't think anyone would buy another Sega console ever again after the Dreamcast. The DC was super powerful for its time, broke sales records, had lots of third party support and great games, but then Sega just pulled the plug after one year. Sega won't stand by their products even when they are doing well. How could anyone buy another console from them knowing that?

Oh I agree Sega had a credibility issue with supporting their products but while the Dreamcast might have started off good, sales & 3rd party support did go down when everyone jumped on the Playstation & the Xbox offerings at the time with much better options & support. Sega saw the writing on the wall & had to pull out. If done right they could market a new system like Atari.

The only thing is that I think the gaming industry is currently in a downward swing so too many consoles coming out over the next little while could cause another gaming industry crash! Especially with Sony talking about releasing an unneeded Playstation 5 in 2019!

@Lex - Sony has the PS 4 Pro which is better. Microsoft needed to upgrade the Xbox One quicker as it had some technical limits that was keeping them back from fully supporting 4k & VR/Mixed Reality gaming. The PS 4 Pro can mostly handle it. Sony is only coming out with a new system to one-up Microsoft again. I think Sony will hurt their sales again by releasing a system so soon!

Nah. PS4 Pro isn't that big of a leap and most PS4 owners won't upgrade to a pro. They will upgrade to a PS5. Console life is typically 5-6 yrs.

Yes but with technology advancing less quickly these days the lifetime expectation of a console is increasing. Microsoft is going by a 10 year lifecycle now for instance but with the Xbox One X have decided to do mid life upgrades if needed if something changes with the industry to warrant a design change.

Sony will be hurt with their sales if they do a PS 5 by 2019 just like they were hurt with sales of the PS 3 after the success of the PS 2 just because the shear number of people who bought the console weren't ready to upgrade yet! I know I am not even fully ready for the Xbox One X as I still feel the Xbox One is good enough for my needs currently. I however would embrace the new Atari system.
