The 'lore' of 'The Legend of Zelda' has changed so rapidly over the past 10 to 15 years. Especially with the creation of 'Skyward Sword'... They made 'Hylia' a character even, and somehow made a mortal (Zelda) her descendant... she used to be a princess, now a 'goddess'?, for the love of pete. The two most recent 'Legend of Zelda' console games have warped this franchise almost beyond recognition.

  • To me, every game is it's own seperate experience, with no connection to the others, unless a direct sequel. As far as 'originality', giving in to modern day gaming trends and selling out, as they did with 'Breath of the Wild' should not be commended or lauded, it was to sell more copies, to atrract non 'Legend of Zelda' fans.

  • With regards to the terrible 'WII motion' controls of 'Skyward Sword', it was a gimick, pure and simple. Playing the game with a more traditional style control pad would be more responsive, accurate, and familiar to all gamers. The 'Wii' console is the most recent 'Nintendo' console I own, and is the reason I never bought a 'WiiU'. No advantage is to be gained by using motion controls.

  • So do you consider Breath of the Wild a bad game?

    Yeahs0
  • I never once in my time on this online service mentioned that, or even alluded to it. It is not about quality of controls, graphics, sound, world or level design, or gameplay mechanics and balance. It has only to do with it's complete absence of what the 'essence' of 'The Legend of Zelda' is. It is a completely different variety of game.

  • Really? From what I've seen of you, you really have a beef with BOTW. Every time I see you bring it up you bash it as 'not a real Zelda' despite it still having Zelda conventions, just with those elements less emphasized in favor of total exploration. Also, since you said the Wii was your latest console, how exactly did you play BOTW?

Yea... skyward sword wouldn't work with traditional controls. Sword fighting just would not have worked.

  • I have not my friend, and I shall not. It is not a true 'Legend of Zelda' game, and I am not throwing away my money by funding the creation of that game. I know my views are not popular, that is fine. I do not instantly love evetything with the label 'Legend of Zelda' put on it. 'Breath of the Wild' is not a true 'Legend of Zelda' game, and never will be.

    Yeahs0
  • Play every single 'Legend of Zelda' game ever created, aside from 'Skyward Sword'. The only reason you say that is bevause it eas designed specifically for those controls from the outset. It did not have to be.

    Yeahs0
  • And your argument is officially ruined. I can no longer take you seriously ever again. When someone bashes a game they haven't played, it comes scross as whining. There were many I never had any interest in, yet when I played them I fell in love. Fire Emblem Awakening, Bioshock, all because I gave them chances. What is the problem with giving it the benefit of thhe doubt? It won't do any harm.

    Yeahs2
  • Also, I tried playing the NES Zelda. Got lost and bored. It's become incredibly archaic.

    Yeahs0
  • ... yes, let me throw away hundreds of dollars to purchase a new xosole, then 60 more the game... that makes sense. (Tgen there is the time and energy wasted on playing it, to top it off.) I find it similiar to the 'Hyrule Warriors' games. A different sort of game with 'Legend of Zelda' graphics, sounds, and names placed over it.

    Yeahs0
  • Try 'A Link to the Past', Andrew.

    Yeahs0
  • I just don't see the problem with Zelda doing something different. Nintendo's come under heavy fire for doing the same thing over and over again, and people have accused Zelda of repeating. Now Zelda does something different yet still respects the previous installments. There is no problem.

    Yeahs0
  • From what little I've played of LTTP, I've liked it, though I ironically have more experience with Link Between Worlds.

    Yeahs0
  • I've yet to hear why BOTW isn't a "true" Zelda game from someone who says something other than "it does things differently from the rest of the series." Take your time I can wait.

    Yeahs0
  • You again. It is always the same individuals. I do not hqve to justify or 'prove' this. Ever play a 'Legend of Zelda' game with no dungeons? Well, now you have. The first and as of this time, only. The list is extensive and would take far too many posts. Also, the original subject of this post was/is not about that.

    Yeahs0
  • That's the response I was expecting to hear from you actually.

    Yeahs0
  • Also it's funny how you mention that this post wasn't originally about BOTW, yet it was brought up in the comments above.

    Yeahs0
  • Because that is an old conversation. One which you, among others, continue to repeat.

    Yeahs0
  • This conversation was originally about the story, and 'lore' as some call it.
