In order to celebrate Miiverse™ with fireworks, I'm gonna jump into VR. No PlayStation® VR... But, 22 years after, I decided to get a VIRTUAL BOY™ with some games* !!! Now I can say that I've played on VIRTUAL BOY™. I'm always fascinated when I switched those old cartridge systems on... It works even after more than two decades !!! My console is all new so I was a bit nervous before switching on. ;^D

First, the 3D effect: Well... Feelings very close to 3DS. Forget the polygonal 3D, think in red LED 2D but the depth between front and background is pretty well rendered. Plus, I'm pleasantly surprised by screen resolution. For a mid-90s system, it is highly above Game Boy.

The weak point is for sure ergonomy... Difficult to maintain your head always in position to be completely immersed in black with eyeshade. And for games that require concentration (like V-Tetris), you can feel a light headache due to eyes fatigue.

I found the pad lighter than I thought but I recommend to use AC adapter (no more AA batteries and you save weight). The very first minutes, some issues to identify all buttons without seeing it. But it's OK after a while.

For the games I've played... Nothing incredible. Mario Clash is Mario Bros. with two planes and V-Tetris use the 3D effect when you clear lines. Very basic.

Overall conclusion: Am I disappointed ? NO, I am not !!! I knew it was a commercial failure and I understand why but as a game collector and preserver, it was important to make this experiment (remember the system codename: Virtual Utopia Experience).

This flop leads Nintendo to design a 3D system without glasses or devices you wear. That is typic of Nintendo philosophy: Instant gameplay. So, we had the 3DS with the 3D effect by the screen only. Very smart... I can understand Big N position regarding Virtual Reality.

They said they won't make it because it wont do well, but then they changed their mind when I said we can just redo the graphics! BIG MONEY!!! BIG PRIZES!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!
