Timeline theory: It could be that we've been thinking about the timeline wrong. Let's look at the time traveling events in Skyward Sword. With sealed Demise being killed in the future, but then resurrected in the past and then defeated and sealed, something strange is definitely going on here. Yet, this doesn't (as far as we know) create a new branch of the timeline. The events are seemingly just

  • integrated into the new timeline and other things are erased or looked over. So why, then does Ocarina of Time split the timeline in three?

    Yeahs0
  • Here's what I propose: There is actually only one timeline for Hyrule. The events in the adult and downfall timeline did actually happen, but these events were eventually erased by time traveling events and the child timeline became the main branch.

    Yeahs0
  • This is because the child timeline is the latest of the branches. In Downfall, time travel was used to try and stop Ganon from rising to power, thus creating the Adult branch. The Child branch was created when Zelda sent Link back in time. So why does Wind Waker exist, you ask? I propose there is a lag between the timelines rectifying themselves. This is why we don't notice anything weird in

    Yeahs0
  • Skyward Sword, since the time travel takes place over a very long time period. It could also be that the goddess of time mentioned in Majora's Mask is the one responsible for 'cleaning up' the timelines. This theory takes inspiration from Tales of Xillia 2, where protagonist Ludger Kresnik infiltrates fractured dimentions(essentially alternate timelines) and destroys them. The goddess of time's

    Yeahs0
  • role could be similar to Ludger's. She destroys branches of the timeline so that there's only one main one. And it could also be that she carries over things from the other timelines, further warping the main branch. Breath of the Wild could take place in a timeline entirely foreign to us. It could be that it was the goddess of time's final attempt to correct for all the time traveling, and that

    Yeahs0
  • she managed to incorporate all of the past games, though perhaps some or all only as legends.

    Yeahs0
  • @wolf you're totally correct you made me go in to the game and remember all the events that go in game! like zelda hearing voices on the game Also have theory or maybe not so they would sealed demise as a giant beast and as well sealing him in to the ground i have the feel this is why the place called sealed ground where is the first place where he falls and meets this woman in sealed grounds

    Yeahs0
  • Also the woman that is in sealed ground turns into younger woman! when you see her in eldin's province where she said. Go head the woman your seeking for lies a head please hurry! but the game has timeline that go'se to past and now! so the past is included in the you know what mean right?

    Yeahs0
  • Well... I can't be completely correct since most of this was incoherent rambling and wild speculation. I don't even believe very much in this theory. My goal was mostly just to incite thought and discussion.

    Yeahs1
  • Well, Nintendo maintains that the split timeline is official and continues to make games for them so I personally doubt the other two were destroyed. As for why the timeline split for OoT's time travel and not for other time traveling instances (SS or OoA for example), I have two ideas about that:

    Yeahs2
  • 1. The timelines DO split for time travel in SS and OoA, but Nintendo chooses not to explore those branches. After all, the very notion of the split timeline theory indicates that there are actually infinite timelines, Nintendo can't possibly make games for all of them.

    Yeahs2
  • 2. The branches created from OoT seem to be tied to the Triforce pieces. Link, Zelda and Ganon all had one, and each timeline is following something somewhat ideal for them. One timeline follows Link back to his childhood, one follows the Zelda that stays behind (ideal for her since the time travel would otherwise literally wipe her from existence), and one follows the possibility that Ganon won.

    Yeahs2
  • so link was starting a battle between the imprison that was demise trying to scape from the sealing so that when the other events where imprison became more stronger than atual sealing so when sealing sighs go to more harder shape thats makes the imprison even stronger where he grow arms and atually could fly so he was even stronger to fight in the game right @wolf?

    Yeahs1
  • @wolf: i actually read my post the everything you did said it. we was correct though we all have different thoughs we maybe can be correct or not! so you see where is my point of seen. So imagine the the legend of zelda skyward sowrd that has now timelines between now and past. Whats your though about the game i mean about now and the past in the so grab the important events that matches

    Yeahs1
  • with past in the game?

    Yeahs0
  • DUDE THIS IS LIKE EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING!!! ...But slightly different. I was thinking that the original timeline was accurate, with the split into three being because of messing with time. and than as time goes on the cracks start to show... Like in BotW, all the races exist their yet some only exist after hyrule is flooded(wich happens in the adult era)but they also mention...

    Yeahs1
  • and do the same for now in the game! so you can have important detailed imformation about the game use it with the timeline! so there you see good information explained very well with the timeline though you have events put them together and we have a timeline of the game

    Yeahs1
  • ...the hero of twilight(from the child era) also Ganon is in his beast form(from the hero defeated era) so in BotW,time is completely messed up, which is why they should make the LoZ game fix that I already thought of a name... the Legend of Zelda: Pieces of Shattered Time ...in the game you would go on quest to correct time by trying to merge the timelines together as one.

    Yeahs1
  • @PENNY I had an idea for a game similar to that that I posted about recently.

    Yeahs0
  • @Vladislak Good points. I believe we may have discussed something similar to option number 2 a long time ago. It was something about Din, Farore, and Nayru each having their own timeline, I think.

    Yeahs1
