Breath of the Wild is a pretty good game. Beautiful scenery, nice music, dynamic and massive world. But I don’t think it would crack my top 5 Zelda. Weapons are too brittle; the 120 shrines all look the same and are very simplistic; the NPCs are occasionally creative but usually are pretty boring; and on a more subjective level, I just prefer a focused mission and the sense of purpose that brings,

  • over semi-aimlessly wandering, which is what I feel BotW encourages. Flurry rushing pretty fun, even if it makes most enemies pretty easy. I would give it a solid 8/10. Again, it is a good game, and I’m definitely enjoying it. But it does have some issues in my opinion.

  • I can only agree and add that the dungeons were a huge disappointment for me as well. Are you getting super mario odyssey? So far no disappointments there!

    Yeahs3
  • Maybe all the blacksmiths in Hyrule met a terrible fate during the Great Calamity which is why the weapons are brittle.

    Yeahs3
  • Link's more brittle than the weapons.

  • @Britt I am getting Odyssey, but not for a couple months, I still have a few more games to catch up on (Mass Effect 3, Breath of the Wild, ME Andromeda, and Prey). Right now I’m in Hateno Village in BotW, I’ve explored the Great Plateau and West Necluda regions, but still have a lot to explore in East Necluda. I love the bay/beach area with the Lizalfos and the palm trees in East Necluda. And I

  • love how they’ve included a Hyrule Compendium this time around. I just got the camera rune and am looking forward to taking pictures of enemies and learning about them in entries. It would be cool if every Zelda game had this. Where are you in BotW, and how much have you explored? @Danny I would agree with that. There have been more than a few times when I was thrown off a Stone Talus and Link

    Yeahs4
  • just kept rolling and taking damage. Where would you rank BotW in comparison to other Zeldas?

    Yeahs3
  • I finished the main story, got all the memories. Kept a lot of shrines and sidequests for when DLC pack 2 comes out. Won't be getting all the korok seeds. I love the exploration (overworld 10/10) but I'd happily trade in half of the freedom of this game for more story and better (zelda like) dungeons. Top 3 is still Oot, TP and MM. Then comes Wind waker, skyward sword and then Botw I think.

    Yeahs3
  • I explored a big part, but due to the korok seeds I have only accomplished 25 percent or so!

    Yeahs1
  • I'm not sure where I'd rank BOTW with other Zeldas, but it isn't in my top five though. Although I do think it is definitely a great game.

  • Yeah, 900 korok seeds and 120 shrines is still my biggest problem with it. Because I feel like the developers could have spent all the time they took filling up the world with those things, and instead use that time to build some really rewarding dungeons or even cool sections like the Pirate’s Stronghold or Skipper’s Retreat in Skyward Sword. I just think I would feel more rewarded for exploring,

    Yeahs4
  • if after exploring for a bit I discovered a massive dungeon/temple that the devs put a lot of time and thought into. As it is, I like exploring, but the “reward” often feels small, like a cool new enemy or mini-boss, at most a village. It’s a fun game but more than once I’ve been disappointed at the shallowness of the content. And the story is a really disappointing issue too, it felt really

    Yeahs4
  • bland and the main characters have pretty generic personalities.

    Yeahs4
  • No real spoilers but I play it safe.

    Yeahs1
  • I agree, the villages and their inhabitants from what I’ve seen seem pretty ordinary. Other Zelda games definitely could get a lot weirder which I liked. I haven’t actually gotten to a dungeon yet but the shrines are all so plain looking that you don’t get the mysteriousness of dungeons in other Zelda games. I have so much to go still in terms of exploring the map that it’s kind of

    Yeahs3
  • overwhelming. I think part of the issue might be my playstyle. I tend to be more goal-oriented, as in I like to have the feeling of a concrete mission and objective, and I feel like BotW’s world is almost built to distract you. So in huge open world games like this, things can start to feel kind of aimless for me after a while. I guess I’m a little worried Odyssey will be the same way, as somebody

    Yeahs3
  • who preferred 3D World, Galaxy 2, and the 2D Mario games. I’ll still play it, and there will probably be really cool moments/sections and environments like in BotW, but I think I’m more excited to play the Crash remasters which is more old school platforming.

    Yeahs3
  • I agree with you whole-heartedly. I just play the game when I feel like I want to explore. School does that to me.

    Yeahs1
  • Yeah I'm a huge super mario 64 fan so for me odyssey is a dream come true! The exploring is totally different I feel, more goal oriented in SMO. You could say BotW has a goal all the time: sidequests and koroks but that doesn't serve as much purpose IMO as searching for moons.
