  • Whoa! The middle Link that I see when I cross my eyes has 3D depth! Smart trick!

  • I mean, this is a 3DS game, right? Enjoy the depth! (I wish I had thought of doing this a lot sooner. ;D)

  • Yeah, really. :/ …Sounds like the perfect time to go make another complex drawing to use as my Miiverse profile pic / signature. TTYL!

Oh hey «CocoLoca», I didn't notice your comment until now! Since Miiverse is ending soon, I may as well come clean. The drawings I've done as "In-Game" posts through Tri Force Heroes are not actually hand-drawn. I made a mod that lets me import my own pre-made images using the game's Miiverse Stamps feature.

The image didn't take long to make though. I saved a 3D screenshot of Link in that pose using Miiverse, then saved the file to my PC, split it into the two separate images using a 3D photography program, then loaded both of those in a Photoshop knock-off, cut out the background, added an outline, shrunk them a bit, placed them side-by-side reduced the colour to just black & white.

It uses a style of dithering called Floyd-Steinberg, which is really great for keeping the overall detail of the image when the colour is reduced. Some people can actually hand-draw that style of dithering here on Miiverse! I don't have the patience or a steady enough hand. That really puts the difficulty into perspective, since my recent Tingle drawing with "ordered" dithering WAS hand-drawn!

…WHAT?! That's how you made it? Whoa! I thought you just drew that, somehow. I mean, there's so many freakishly good artists on here who can make drawings that look like this. (…Unless those people use computer programs, too…)

That's okay James! Part of the reason I fake-drew the 3D Link was because I was planning to really-draw Tingle right afterward; to prove my chops, so to speak. Splatoon 2 lets you draw with the D-pad and buttons, so a lot of people are using a program to automate that. :P But typically the fancy drawings on Miiverse are actual labours of love.

…Oh, wow! I see why you did that. Your Tingle drawing looks crazy awesome! …Wait, you can draw on Splatoon 2? I didn't know. …Oh, that's nice to hear. So, most people AREN'T using programs to do their work. Cool!
