Honestly, I see no reason whatsoever to get Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U and it all comes down to overall value. I've got the Wii version of the game already, way before the HD remake was even announced, which I can still play via backwards compatibility on my Wii U! And the fact that not much was done to make it better, not even visuals, and at full retail price made me stay away from it.

Yea. I got it cause I just wanted to play it during last winter. After I finished it, came to the conclusion that there was no reason to get it what so ever. Oh well.

  • Well, the controls are drastically improved.

  • Not really. Sure, the Wii version uses motion controls but they're not at all bad as it works the way it should. Using the Wii U gamepad compromises comfort and doesn't fit well in your hand, and pro controllers are very expensive.

  • Yeah, I wasn’t talking about the Gamepad, just the pro controller, which is expensive but definitely worth it if you have a lot of Wii U games. I thought the pro controls offered a more precise feeling over my movements in combat, plus the Hero Mode was definitely a welcome addition as the original was really easy. You’re right that they could have added a lot more in terms of gameplay features

  • , but it’s tough to really change it visually without also changing the art style. There are some very slight reasons to buy it, but maybe my perspective is different since I never actually owned it for the Wii and my first time playing through the full game was the HD version.

  • I do think Mario 64 DS and Ocarina of Time 3D were good examples of drastically changing/upgrading the visual style without losing the charm of the original. I personally think this HD remake felt rushed and not given enough care put into it due to lackluster Wii U sales. Even Wind Waker HD had the swift sail which on its own was a massive improvement over the original.

Would you consider it worth buying if you never owned the original version of the game?

Sadly, I'm not too sure about that, seeing as I never actually got TPHD after the reviews I've seen and the research I've gathered. I didn't see the point of it since I still have the Wii version and can still play it just fine. Always do your research on a game before you buy it. From what I have seen of it though, I guess you might be fine with either version if you never played it before.

OK, because I actually paid full price for the HD version with the amiibo bundled in. (by now, you can get the amiibo separately in the US at least) This is also said from a person who never had the GCN or the Wii versions of the game.
