    For example, it normally unsheathes in sword mode, but if you unsheathe via R+X+A it'll unsheathe straight into axe mode instead.

    After basically any attack in sword mode you can do X+A for a shield-thrust or sideways+B to do a quick sidestep (shorter distance but faster than a dodge roll).

    When doing a super element discharge from axe mode (X+A) you can cancel out of it with R and this charges your shield, buffing its power.

    Don’t forget about the ultra’s and super’s! When you have your shield charged, press x+a or swing it around 3 times to do an ultra, to do a super you do the same things but when you start doing the ultra animation, you instead have to hold on the direction opposite from your hunter (hunter is looking left, you push it right) and press x at the same time! Super’s are more stronger IMO

    No, Ultras are stronger but they also drain all your phials (and your shield charge), whereas a super only drains 1 phial charge.

    Also, the roundhouse slash move (e.g. X,X,X) has a short moment it will automatically block incoming attacks. Same with a shield charge or morphing to axe mode. Real difficult to get the timing right, but worth it when you can.

    Yeah I know that ultras are stronger, but super’s are more rewarding, with more ko/elemental power than a ultra, which is why experienced players almost NEVER use ultra, but instead use the super instead

    Supers are definitely still useful since it doesn't drain your shield charge. (in MHWorld, ultras no longer drain the shield charge either, just the phials)

    Ultras do far more KO damage/Element damage (depending on phial type) Supers can also ba done the same way an ultra is done if you don't have a charged shield.

    Aside: Charged shield / Ultra discharge was originally added in MH4U, it wasn't present in MH4 original.
