The Wii Shop channel is on the Wii, not Wii U.

On your WiiU dashboard there is a app named Wii menu and that app switches WiiU to the Wii and there I can browse Wii shop channel. Also going is the TVii app.

The Wii Shop Channel isn't shutting down yet. Early next year, you will be unable to add Wii points. In early 2019, the shop will close completely.

Phineas, how do you know the Wii shop channel isn't going same day as Miiverse, WiiU chat and TVii app?

Xman, yep you can still use the Wii menu on WiiU dashboard to buy Wii games using a eshop card.. am not sure if you can use bank details to purchase Wii shop games but I know the eshop cards still work.
