My final Legend of Zelda theory! Even if it is a repeat, this is still my favorite that I posted here. Ganondorf is a genius tactician in the first half of Ocarina of Time. And in the comments, I will explain why. Please note, there will be spoilers!

...like Zelda's, it's impossible to tell. Regardless, it makes sense he would have some sort of push to fulfill his role in this tale. We already know some steps he took for a fact; he threatened the Deku Tree for the Kokiri Emerald, cursed him...and left without claiming his prize. Similarly, he threatened Darunia for the Goron Ruby, blocked the path to their primary source of food...and left.

Seems like a poor plan at first. Until you realize that his actions caused the Deku Tree to leap to action (figuratively =P), give Link the Emerald, and send him on his way. Similarly, 'Dorf's actions provided the perfect situation for Link to earn Darunia's trust, and his Ruby. We already know he was waiting for Link to open the way to the Sacred Realm, but this opens the possibility of him...

...taking it a step further and planning this from the very beginning. What about the Zora's Sapphire? Ganondorf cursed Jabu-Jabu so that Ruto would be in danger when going to feed him, thus allowing Link to earn her trust (and perhaps a bit more =P). But what if that's not all he did? I dunno about you, but that letter in a bottle doesn't exactly sound like Ruto's style, especially considering..

...she displays ignorance when told about the letter, and initially refuses Link's help. Thus, I offer this possibility; Ganondorf wrote the letter to guide Link on the right path, and allow him access to Zora's Fountain where Jabu Jabu resides. Finally, after gaining the king's trust, it seems like a rash decision to assault the castle, kill a guard, and chase Zelda into hiding. An act of...

...desperation? No, he knows he doesn't have all the necessary keys. How about a calculated strike to force some rash decisions out of the other two future Triforce holders? Zelda thrusts the Ocarina of Time into Link's possession (with one heck of a throw), and after 'Dorf toys with and threatens Link (I am Ganondorf! And soon, I will rule the world!), the Hero of Time rushes off to unlock the...

...Door of Time without a second thought. If my theory is correct, it was a genius move, and quite a mind game he was playing. His plan works flawlessly; he deserves seven years of rule after the intellect he displayed. And that's all I've got. I hope to see some discussion on this at the end of days, and for the final time on Miiverse, thank you for reading!

This is still a theory as opposed to canon? :p In this iteration of your thoughts, my mind is fixed on the nature of Ganondorf's vision. While someone in his position, heir to an alienated kingdom beyond Hyrule reared by sorcery, could certainly gain access to knowledge of the keys, a bit of direction for his manipulation seems a requisite. The Triforce might not have been the assistant though.

Gerudo are shown to have their own objects of worship, and Koume and Kotake their own magics. Either could have been employed. The statement you quoted that he makes to Link after Zelda's hail Mary is a tenuous piece of evidence of such a vision. Perhaps it's not born of arrogance, rather clairvoyance beforehand. Ganondorf may have seen his castle before it was made.

But regardless, it would make sense for him to receive a vision from the Triforce, at least initially, as the other two did.

An unwitting collaboration of kings eh? Poor choice of a peace offering. I'm just of a mind that Koume and Kotake would know about the Spiritual Stones and Ocarina given their age and vocation. Seems like knowledge they would acquire ... Ganondorf might have seen the exact same scene Link did in his vision from the Triforce, but had a better angle. :p

That's a great theory. I think I read it before, but I'm not sure I commented. I should play OoT with this in mind. It will likely take OoT Ganondorf from a good villain to a great villain.

It's possible that he got his vision from the Gerudo magic and not from the Triforce. Just because the other 2 may have gotten their visions from the Triforce doesn't mean that Ganondorf did. Perhaps, if there was some witchcraft involved, the Triforce/goddesses feeling like this was cheating, unfair, or just something they didn't want to happen - produced theirs as a response.

This is good stuff. This is how game story theories are meant to be. Before the days where people used little in-game evidence and presented their ideas as fact in a pretentious way. Conversations like these are an old, mostly forgotten, art. Conversations where you - no, where we - explore possibilities in the plot through deductive reasoning while acknowledging that we don't know for sure.

I haven't seen conversations like these since the Zelda music guys were still around. Also, that bottle with Ruto's note thing is pretty clearly implied by the game to be a forgery by Ganondorf. Although, I suppose it's equally possible that Ruto is "tsundre" and someone told her that she could meet the man of her dreams if she left a note like that in Lake Hylia. You guys should save this too!

Ruto's describec part is such a sophisticated hint dropped by the creators. We all went wild when Nintendoer first illuminated that bit.

I wouldn't put it beyond the Goddesses/Triforce to dole out these visions on their own. Look at Twilight Princess; Ganondorf suddenly received the Triforce of Power (described as a "divine prank"). It's unclear exactly why it happened; perhaps 'Dorf needed to be kept alive for the sake of destiny? Perhaps something similar can be said for the visions they each received...to get the ball rolling.

Anyway, thank you so much for the input, Tristen! And thanks for joining in, everyone. It's interesting seeing you think outside the box; fascinating to ponder what the overal cause for Link and Zelda's visions were...and I do indeed fully intend to save this post. Yep, that was a fun time, Stagger.

Wow! Yeah, I never actually thought about WHY the bottle was there. Of course, there's still downfall timeline to think of. I remember there was a theory that the visions Link and Zelda had were messages from the far future.
