Super Mario 3D World did not take place in Dinosaur land. (Despite what the game is called) It actually took place in the Sprixie kingdom. The only similarity is that Super Mario World came out on console (SNES) while Super Mario Land came out on a handheld. (Hence, the 3ds game is Super Mario 3D Land)

For those asking about Plessie on Mario Kart, the kart would break under the weight of Plessie. (Same applies to Dorrie) Considering the opening of Super Mario 3D World, The main characters (Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad) entered through a pipe that Plessie realistically doesn't fit. (Although Bowser somehow fit) but who knows?
