Believe it or not, this was the first Super Mario game I ever bought. Scandalous admission: as a kid playing the Mario games on my friend's NES, I actually didn't like them much. So I just never tried them again. But I finally gave Mario another chance and I'm glad I did. 3D Land, while not amazing, is quite fun, And Odyssey is like a totally different game, and so much better!
