Decided to try to create a tiny Luigi. Having a grid and a preview on separate screens helps a ton. What do you think about it?

  • I love it! It sure helps a lot when making precise and exact, pixel perfect sprites.

  • Agreed! It's surely better for me to create better pictures and I have more control over placing pixels when I have an option to zoom in, and a grid shows up when the picture's zoomed in enough. That was my first attempt at making a sprite.

  • Thank you so much! While I'm planning on drawing more traditionally with the app, I consider limiting palette to be an interesting challenge, so I'll try doing something like this every once in a while.

  • That's what I did too! I tried drawing myself as an 80's video game character, but I only used 3 colors, like with the NES.

  • Wow, it looks awesome! Looking forward to seeing more of your works! I like giving loads of colors so much, that it's hard for me to limit myself to just 3... I'll try, though. I reckon that Megaman was one of instances, where they layered sprites to give an impression of there being more colors for the sprites. That's some trivia that I'm sure you know already...

  • Yea, it was quite hard to limit it like that. I hope to become a programmer in the future, so maybe I can use my sprites someday if I'm lucky. And no, I didn't actually know that... I've been playing Mega Man 2 lately, and I have to say, the graphics are amazing for it's time. When was it, 1990? (I also made a bat as a weapon for my character)

  • Cool! I'm considering learning a programming language myself sometime... I'm pretty sure SMB2(USA) uses these as well, since sometimes the whites of characters' eyes might show up as a rectangle when the game's corrupted. I don't remember the specific details regarding sprite limitations - I'm sure there's block sizes needed to be taken in consideration, though. Programming is no easy feat...

  • ... So I appreciate the works (and workarounds for console limitations) the people do for these. Limiting yourself might be a very good exercise! The first Megaman was released in 1987, with the sequel being released in 1988. Unless you're talking about Europe, then the 1st was released in 1990, with the sequel having its premiere in 1991. Didn't know of that until I looked this up. Huh.
