Level-design tip: Enemy placement. It's easy to put in too few or too many enemies, but it's hard to find just the right balance. Always try to consider the placement and difficulty of each enemy relative to each other and the level. It has to be challenging, but not too hard. That goes for any type of obstacle, not just regular enemies. Things like skewers or death pits, for instance.

  • I'd disagree that it's possible to put in too few enemies; some of my favorite levels have no enemies whatsoever
