Wii U Keeps Losing Exclusives!
Big Wii U exclusives are coming to the 3DS! First Hyrule Warriors, now Yoshi's Whooly World and the supposed Wii U savior Super Mario Maker. That's right, the Wii U lost 2 exclusives in just one day! It's official, Nintendo has abandoned the Wii U.

Hyrule Warriors runs at 30fps on the New 3DS. That's acceptable. (It should've stayed as a New 3DS exclusive. Clearly shows that the old 3DS couldn't run it properly) And don't under estimate just because it's on 3DS. The 3DS is outselliing the PS4, so when those failed Wii U games comes to the 3DS, they'll get the profit they needed since they couldn't get it to sell the Wii U.

Underestimate what? I'm merely stating that porting a game to a weaker system over a year later isn't going to have a big impact on sales. If people didn't buy the games by this point, they likely weren't that interested in the first place. At the very least they didn't make it a priority. I for example was interested in Yoshi, but never made it a priority; I'll probably still get it on Wii U tho.

By releasing the games on 3DS it's just giving access to a bigger demographic. The only reason this never happened before was because the hardware gap was too large; 3DS is ostensibly only 1 generation behind Wii U in terms of hardware (it's close to being on par with GameCube/Wii; New 3DS probably is). Releasing these games on 3DS effectively gives Nintendo double the opportunity w/ little work.

I get what some people are saying. It's unfortunate to see so many Wii U games being ported to 3DS and rarely the other way around (KI Uprising for example would've been awesome on Wii U). That said, Wii U still has several exclusives: Splatoon, Pokken Tournament, Xenoblade X, StarFox Zero, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and Wonderful 101 to name a few.

@Silvereye I already explained that. Read my past comments.

But all you've been saying is that Wii U needs exclusives (which it has plenty of) and that the 3DS getting ports is somehow detrimental to those games' Wii U sales. Wii U didn't fail because of lack of exclusives, it failed because of a myriad of different factors (poor launch lineup, comparatively weak hardware, total lack of 3rd party support, etc). As I said before, they're doing this...

because for the first time ever they actually have a portable with powerful enough hardware to do it. Hyrule Warriors sold 1.26 million units on Wii U, Mario Maker sold 3.15 million units, and Yoshi sold 1.28 million units. None of those games "sold poorly" by any stretch of the imagination, porting them to 3DS just gives additional revenue with little effort on Nintendo's part.

Even if Wii U sold 50 million units, they'd likely still port these games to 3DS. It has nothing to do with Wii U's lifetime sales, it's just a smart and effective business strategy to get your software to as many of your consumers as possible.

Neither of those games saved the Wii U. It was doomed from the beginning.

I agree with that. But not saving the Wii U doesn't mean it wasn't successful. Wii U failed because of several factors; the exclusives weren't the issue.

Exactly. Nintendo couldn't rely on the Wii U to get profit anymore. Sales of the games are slow or even stopped because nobody buys the Wii U. 3DS has a much larger install base compared to the Wii U.

Agreed. I'm just saying that porting exclusives to 3DS doesn't really impact Wii U hardware or software sales much. Even if Wii U sold 50 million units, they'd still do this to get additional revenue.

It does. A lot of people planned to get the Wii U this holiday season for any of those games. But they own a 3DS already, so what's the point of getting a Wii U for that game? That game is coming to the 3DS, I can just wait for it to come out and just pay 40 bucks instead of $250+

I doubt there were many people planning to get a Wii U this holiday season for Yoshi's Woolly World. Mario Maker perhaps, but it can't upload stages so that kinda defeats the purpose. I'd think that if someone wanted a Wii U specifically for Mario Maker, then they'd have gotten it last year when there were bundles available. People in the situation you described are very few and far between.

Still affects sales. And especially since no games are coming to the Wii U aside from Paper Mario. Nintendo is focusing on the 3DS and the NES Classic Edition this holiday.

"I'm just saying that porting exclusives to 3DS does really impact sales MUCH." That was an exact quote from a previous post I made. Obviously it impacts sales, but not to any significant degree. If anything the 3DS Mario Maker might help improve sales of the Wii U version because people would want to upload their stages online. It certainly won't impact Wii U hardware sales to a huge extent.

Again, I'm not one of those people in denial saying that Wii U is going to get lots of support into next year. I'm fully aware that the Wii U is going out the door for whatever the NX is. All I'm saying is that porting exclusives to 3DS was not a substantial contributor to its tepid sales, nor will it be next year when they actually come out. Wii U had other factors that led to its troubles.
